Watup watup, this is $amroc back again with a grip of free music for you. Check out our fearless leader conquering the bunny hill last weekend! I went up to Midwest Snowfest to see Dani open up the weekend’s festivities, ate some vodka-soaked gummi bears with her, watched drunk snowboarders hit on her…let’s get to the tunes! (quick note as of press, the individual track mp3 players were not working, then working, then not working this morning, but all files are hosted and downloadable still with a right-click-save-as of both the file name and the .zip folders at the bottom regardless if the player is there or not)
So my plan for this post: start with the uptempo and roll on down the bpms, so we’ll start off with this freebie from a newcomer to both Chicago and Dsquared, Robert Blaker aka Screamcatcher. Playing piano since 1998 and spending the early to mid 00’s working on trying to break into video game music writing, he moved into producing EDM about a year ago. He sent us this eccentric and happy electro track he made as kinda a shot in the dark and a holler wassup being a Dsquared reader himself, and I enjoyed the thick synths and good-time melodies enough to include it. http://soundcloud.com/screamcatcher
Australian dance music producers Fear Of Dawn sent us a tasty disco freebie called “Take Love From Me”, and it’s super funky house, not like uk funky, but like funky funky. I can’t place the sample yet and google hasn’t got me anything either. Grab the tune! http://soundcloud.com/fearofdawn
Everybody likes having their own specialty edits of big tunes. This is a breakbeat vip of the UK’s Stanton Warrior’s from their 2011 tours that also dips into a dubsteppy half-time breakdown. Music originally by robots. http://soundcloud.com/stantonwarriors
I’ve probably been following west coast electro/dubstep producer/drummer combo At Dawn We Rage for about a year and a half now, and everything they have given out has been worth my time. Sometimes when I’m in the middle of a heavy set and don’t really know what I should play next, I literally just search their name and pick something. This collabo with Phoenix, Arizona producer Death To The Throne is some heavy melodic brostep with a brief breakbeat step up at the middle breakdown drop and curvy chickstep synths. http://soundcloud.com/atdawnwerage http://soundcloud.com/death-to-the-throne
The beginning of this April sees a release for a full-album collabo between California bass music heavyweight Mochipet and Panamanian-born Chicago-residing global bass MC Zulu entitled ‘Mochipet Is Evil’ on Mochi’s own Daly City Records. This promotional freebie for the album starts with a chopped raga-meets-ragga intro from Mochi that kicks into a heavy boom bap break while Zulu encouragingly professes his love fi di gyal dem pon di floor. Both highly respected and known within the international underground, one can expect that this new album will help cross their fanbases where applicable and also introduce many first time listeners of either performer into the sonic playspace they both so comfortably occupy. http://www.mochipet.com http://www.mczulu.com/
