Not gonna lie, I straight swiped this mix off Dani’s plate when she wasn’t looking, but she shouldn’t have taunted me with how tasty it was. What mix you ask, well, if you’re anything like me, you scour BBC Essential mixes like they were lost books of the bible, and this galaxy-sized exploration by Jacques Lu Cont is a sacred text indeed. If you open your ears and move your feet, any listener, of any genred temperment, can be lifted up and onto a journey. Gravitating around sounds that slip in and out of the ether, the beats keep everything four on the floor, enslaving the listener to the rhythm. Lu Cont also excels at taking things from the dankest writhing basement nights, to the largest of mega-clup big rooms, all superfluously.

Who all’s riding the back of this two hour Gulliver, you ask? Well, the sounds themselves tend to stay around all things house, indie, and electro. However, out-of-nowhere surprises pop out all over, and the list of artists included is staggering. Personally, anyone who starts a mix with a Throwing Snow track has already won me over. A little taste of off the beaten path includes: AC/DC, Depeche Mode, The Pixies, and even NSync, because why the hell not? Beyond that you a second guard of standard big names such as Digitalism, Justice, Felix Da Housecat, Daft Punk, and similar legacied ilk. But there’s also a host of excellent producers getting praise right now, including L-Vis 1990, Will Bailey, Herve, Surkin, and more exciting sound weavers.
It really is an excellent cross of DJ selecting, fired away by a clear expert.

So, if you’re anything like me, and have had an insane couple of weeks, in every way imaginable, you will need something as rich as this to perk your ears up to a hair of the dog weekend. Whatever side of dawn you find yourself on, grab a steaming mug of your hot drink of choice, slip on your highest quality headphones, face the day, and go in.
