Hello world! Zoë Renee coming in while en route to NYC for holiday and boy oh boy do I have some certified jams to hare with all of you! I have some killer remixes of Rihanna, and Santigold, as well as a new single fromt is until Chicago’s own; Only Children, plus I will introduce one of my favourite producers; RAC to the dsquared!!
Alright, Rihanna is a bad b*tch-and I mean that in the best way possible, I’ve been a fan of hers since she first made her US debut and have enjoyed numerous releases of hers. One of her newest bangers goes by the name of Birthday Cake and it’s a certified club jam, however, it is a little difficult (read-impossible) to work into an uptempo peak hour set. That is until Jeff Morena got his hands on it and cranked the energy through the roof with a proper remix! Now that you have it, play it, and play it loud!
I know I’m not alone when I say I ma more than delighted to see the return of Santigold. Her new album “Master of My Make-Believe” is absolutely brilliant and features many stand out tracks both for listening and playing out to a floor. One of the key tracks on the album is Freak Like Me has been given the remix treatment courtesy of Pickster One and it is one hell of a treatment! The energy of the original is maintained but it has been given an electro dancehall treatment. The final result is a solid edit that takes the original to the next essential step. Simply put, it fucking works, really well
Chicago’s Only Children always delivers, and now they come to us with a freebie for spring that is going to usher in the warmer weather and even hotter dancefloors in properly. In Whatcha Wanna, they take a familiar, yet seldom used, sample of Promises by Ciara and flip it into some of the purest disco house vibes this side and every side of the Mississippi! You’re going to need this track in your arsenal for this summer, it’s start-to-finish excellence.
Finally, I’d like to introduce you to one of my favorite producers, like ever, RAC! RAC (or Remix Artist Collective) has been in the game for a minute and has been responsible for some of the best remixes in indie dance music. He has remixed everyone from Theophilus London, to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, to The Shins, and countless others-every remix is masterful and has a unique signature all to it’s own. Now, Mountain Dew’s awesome Green Label Sound (known for releases of Classixx, Holy Ghost!, and many other pioneering artists) has released RAC’s first original single “Hollywood” featuring Penguin Prison! Check out the video and grab the track below!!
